In-N-Out secret menu nutrition: calories and protein for every off-menu order

Quick answer
In-N-Out does not publish nutrition for its not-so-secret menu, so the numbers below are Eatery estimates built from In-N-Out official numbers and Eatery app component values. A 3x3 is about 780 calories and 49g protein. A 4x4 is about 950 calories and 64g protein. Animal Style adds about 95 calories to any burger (grilled onions 15, pickles 0, extra spread about 80). A Flying Dutchman is about 340 calories and 30g protein. A Grilled Cheese is about 400 calories and 16g protein. Each added patty with cheese is about 170 calories and 15g protein.
Eatery estimates combine In-N-Out official nutrition with Eatery app component values. In-N-Out does not publish these items, portions vary by store, and the extra spread on Animal Style is counted as one side of spread. Check the Eatery app for your exact order.
My go-to secret menu order
Growing up in Southern California means growing up with In-n-Out after high school football games, beach days, and functions. A pivotal moment in everyone’s In-n-Out experience is discovering the not so secret, secret-menu. That might be an animal style french fry or ordering a flying dutchman. Although In-n-Out has a simple menu, their secret menu allows for the customization that can transform your average order to something that can hit your budget and nutrition goals.
My go to order lately has become four single cheese patties with whole grilled onions, and maybe a french fry. The order remains under $10 and about 60g of protein.
What is on the In-N-Out secret menu?
In-N-Out's official Not So Secret Menu page includes the 3x3 (also called the Triple Triple), 4x4 (also called Four by Four or Quad Quad), Grilled Cheese, Protein Style, and Animal Style. Flying Dutchman, Animal Style fries, Neapolitan shake, mustard-cooked patties and whole grilled onions are widely ordered but are not on that page, so they are marked below. Chopped chilies, grilled onions and pickles are listed on In-N-Out official add-ons nutrition.
Secret menu calories: Eatery estimates
Every number in this table is an Eatery estimate, not an official In-N-Out figure. The math column shows how each one was built.
| Item | Calories | Protein | Carbs | Fat | Cal per g protein | Source | Math |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3x3 (Triple Triple) | 780 | 49g | 44g | 47g | 15.9 | Eatery estimate | Double-Double 610 + 1 patty-and-cheese 170 = 780. Protein 34 + 15 = 49g |
| 4x4 (Four by Four / Quad Quad) | 950 | 64g | 46g | 60g | 14.8 | Eatery estimate | Double-Double 610 + 2 x 170 = 950. Protein 34 + 30 = 64g |
| Grilled Cheese (2 cheese, no patty) | 400 | 16g | 42g | 18g | 25.0 | Eatery estimate | Hamburger 360 minus 1 patty 100 + 2 cheese 140 = 400. Protein 16 minus 10 + 10 = 16g |
| Animal Style Cheeseburger | 525 | 20g | 49g | 30g | 26.3 | Eatery estimate | Cheeseburger 430 + grilled onions 15 + pickles 0 + extra spread 80 = 525 |
| Animal Style Double-Double | 705 | 34g | 51g | 43g | 20.7 | Eatery estimate | Double-Double 610 + 15 + 0 + 80 = 705 (625 without the extra spread) |
| Animal Style 3x3 | 875 | 49g | 53g | 56g | 17.9 | Eatery estimate | 3x3 estimate 780 + 15 + 0 + 80 = 875 |
| Flying Dutchman (2 patties, 2 cheese, no bun, no veggies). Not on In-N-Out's page | 340 | 30g | 4g | 26g | 11.3 | Eatery estimate | 2 x patty-and-cheese 170 = 340. Protein 2 x 15 = 30g |
| Neapolitan Shake (equal parts chocolate, vanilla, strawberry). Not on In-N-Out's page | 600 | 16g | 71g | 30g | about 38 | Eatery estimate (from official shakes) | Average of the three official 15oz shakes (610, 590, 610); assumes equal thirds |
| Animal Style Fries. Not on In-N-Out's page | 375 + cheese + spread | 6g + cheese | 53g + more | 15g + more | n/a | Incomplete: no total | Fries 360 + grilled onions 15 are official; In-N-Out does not publish the cheese or spread portion, so no total is given |
3x3 and 4x4 calories
A 3x3 is a Double-Double plus one more patty and cheese slice: 610 + 170 = about 780 calories and 49g protein. A 4x4 adds two: 610 + 340 = about 950 calories and 64g protein. Ordered Protein Style, subtract about 150 calories and 29g carbs.

Animal Style calories
Animal Style is a mustard-cooked patty, pickles, extra spread and grilled onions. Grilled onions are 15 calories and pickles are 0 (official). The extra spread is counted at about 80 calories (one side of spread, Eatery app). The mustard cooked into the patty is not counted; a full mustard packet is only 5 calories.
Flying Dutchman calories
Not on the official Not So Secret Menu page. As commonly ordered (two patties, two cheese slices, nothing else), it is two patty-and-cheese layers: about 340 calories, 30g protein and 4g carbs. At about 11.3 calories per gram of protein it has the best ratio of any item here.

Grilled Cheese calories
Two cheese slices, lettuce, tomato and spread on a bun with no patty: about 400 calories and 16g protein. With no meat, it has one of the highest calories-per-protein ratios of the burgers.

Animal Style fries
No total given. Fries (360) and grilled onions (15) are official, but In-N-Out does not publish the cheese or spread portion on Animal fries, so any total would be a guess.

Golden ratio note: Kyle aims for about 10 calories per gram of protein. Lower is better. A single plain patty is about 10.0 and a patty with cheese about 11.3. The bun, spread and fries push the ratio up. Kyle’s full high-protein build is in how to order 75g of protein at In-N-Out.
